It is very rare to see lice crawling around on clothing. Lice prefer to live on a head among hair where the temperature is constant, where the humidity is high, where they can lay their eggs that get glued to the hair shaft, and where there is a presence of blood which is their food. If they are off the head, they die usually within 24-48 hours from dehydration or lack of food. Their claws are not designed to move around clothing so they don’t like it. They feel uncomfortable. They feel immobile. So for them to be off the hair is rare. They can, however, be seen on clothing despite all of that. That is usually from combing them off during regular combing, get jarred off, or maybe they are looking to switch to another host. But that is very rare. They are almost always found right on the head.
