There are three different types of lice: Body lice, pubic lice, and head lice.
Head lice are human host parasites. They live on the head of humans and feed only on human blood. They need to take a blood meal ever 2-3 hours. They crawl down the hair shaft and get on the scalp of the head to take a blood meal. There are 3 stages that lice go through in their lifetime:
- Eggs-hatch out in about 9 days
- Nymph-3 different stages
- Adult-able to lay eggs and able to start the cycle all over again
They have 6 claws that they use to move around from hair strand to hair strand.
They are spread through head-to-head contact by a person that has head lice to a person that does not.
They key thing to know about lice is that if you do not treat them or have them professional removed they will continue to live and breed for potentially years. So it is important that you take care of your lice. Get it checked if you are not sure if you have it or not. Do a self-treatment or see a professional to get rid of your infestation.
